About Ellen: For 2010 I introduced ISABELLE ROSE, named in honor of my beautiful granddaughter. This plant represents the culmination of several years of breeding for white cascades. I began hybridizing in 1997, becoming interested in spiders and unusual forms around 1998. Daylilies exhibiting fabulous forms and movement have always been among my favorites. With the help of Clayton Burkey, Ned Roberts and Curt Hanson I began my exploration of cascade forms, seeking excellent northern performance and near-white colors. I select for good budcounts and branching, diamond dusting and superior foliage on dependable plants. As part of the selection process, after rain storms I take inventory to see which daylilies hold up the best. My passion evolved into trying to put edges onto spiders. And then there’s my love of hot colored oranges! Clayton Burkey sent me FLAMING FIREBIRD as a bonus plant and it’s still one of my favorites. I have numerous seedlings coming from it and last year we introduced it’s offspring FLAMING FLAMINGO. I’ve been an AHS garden judge since 2001 and an AHS Junior Exhibition judge. If you are interested in daylilies then we encourage you to join http://www.daylilies.org/AHSmemb.html It’s an honor to be a Garden Judge and very interesting . I am also a member of Patriot Daylily Society, New England Daylily Society and Connecticut Daylily Society. My awards include two Best-in-Show Ribbons at NEDS and PDS, AHS Daylily Exhibition Shows plus the Stanley Saxton award for my intro BOB MARLEY, and Region 4 Hybridizer of the year for Isabelle Rose.
